Nakivale Distribution May 2026

The distribution was led by the Lifewater core team and supported by Nsamizi, UNHCR, and Village Health Teams (VHTs), who played a key role in mobilization and beneficiary verification.

This intervention aimed to improve access to safe drinking water at the household level for highly vulnerable populations.

Nakivale is currently experiencing the onset of a dry spell due to changing weather patterns. This has significantly affected access to safe and clean drinking water within the settlement. Water supply systems are under strain, leading to water rationing across many zones.

As a result, persons of concern are often required to wait in long queues for limited water supplies. This situation disproportionately affects women and children, who are primarily responsible for water collection.

A story of resilence - Sarah

Sarah is a recent arrival from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Her journey to safety was marked by profound loss and trauma. She witnessed the killing of her brother and husband by rebels, an experience that forced her to flee for her life.

She arrived in Uganda carrying not only her own children but also two of her late brother’s children. At the time of arrival, she was also pregnant. Despite her trauma, Sarah now shoulders the responsibility of caring for all the children under her protection.

Sarah attended the distribution on the first day but was unable to receive a kit due to the high turnout. Determined, she returned on the second day and was successfully able to receive a Lifewater emergency filtration system.

Happy Beneficiaries!
